Did You Know?
- A whole
apple, with the skin on, contains quercetin—a strong
flavanoid that fights inflammation, inhibits the growth
of malignant cells and causes abnormal cells to self-destruct.
- A
whole apple extract, cider, also contains quercetin.
- Eighty
percent of the fiber in apples is in the white flesh. This
soluble fiber is called pectin which binds
sugars so they
don’t rush into the bloodstream at once keeping
blood sugar level steady—good news for the diabetics.
Apple pectin acts as a giant sponge sopping up cholesterol
and bile acids.
The pectin passes right through the system taking cholesterol
along with it.
- Apple peel consists
of insoluble fiber that adds bulk to the stool easing it
on out—preventing
such conditions as diverticulosis.
